Our Philosophy - Art & DESIGN
news/arrivals

Art is everywhere in our environment. We should open our eyes to the beauty of our rugged coastline along with the ever changing sand and shoreline, the flora and fauna of our island. The intent, to my mind, is to show everyone, particularly young eyes, a way of seeing. There is art in the line of a jacket and in the shape of a shirt collar as well as in the way one addresses a letter, signs a signature, combs one’s hair…there is art in the way an architect places a window in a house, creates a roof line, plans a driveway or conceives of an entry way. Every decision should be affected by the same artistic consideration – what is aesthetically sound.

To put it simply, “Make it look good.” One of our favourite books on this subject is A PATTERN OF LANGUAGE by C. Alexander, S. Ishikawa and M. Silverstein. Published in 1977 it describes a new attitude to architecture and planning and it is written in layman’s terms.
